Pinocchio's story begins with a kindly woodworker's wish upon a falling star that the little wooden puppet could come to life. To his joy, his wish is granted, and Pinocchio must prove himself brave, truthful and unselfish to become a real boy. After being led astray by seemingly trustworthy characters, Pinocchio winds up locked inside a cage in the caravan of traveling puppeteer, Stromboli. All hope seems lost until the Blue Fairy appears. Pinocchio, fearing his chance of becoming a real boy would be hindered, begins lying about what happened. With each fib, his nose grows, sprouting leaves, flowers and even a nest of birds!
